Sorry I haven't posted in here for over 2 weeks. I kinda got absorbed into the expansion and forgot to post in here, I've made a schedule for myself so I'll keep on top of posting now. Again I'm deeply sorry for not keeping up with this.

Now then let's get to the topic at hand.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE SB EXPANSION (NOT MAJOR BUT STILL SPOILERS)

What is a "Warrior of Light"? Well according to the FFXIV Wikia on the WoL they are known as "Hydaelyn's Chosen" (among a vast amount of other titles), they defend the star in times of peril to keep light in the world and darkness at bay. To aid those in need of help and to strike down those that would bring ruin and destruction wherever they go.

But what exactly are they? Are they beings? Are they entities? Manifestations of the lifestream? What are they?

The reason I'm asking this is because of the dungeon, Ala Mhigo. Which is the first level 70 dungeon of the SB expansion. During the fight with the second boss, Aulusmal Asina, he uses an ability called "Mindjack". When he uses this attack he says "Soul extraction complete" (or something like that, I'm gonna be running the dungeon later to get the exact quote), when this happens your soul is separated from your body and you have to run back to it before the magitek claws catch you.

The one thing I noticed when this happened was your name was displayed over your character's soul, but not over the body. The body had "Nameless Adventurer" as the display name, now I know that this is because it has something to do with the game and how it was coded to handle the fight with the characters names and everything, but….. What if that was intentionally put in to mean something on the lore of the WoL?

My speculation right now is that a Warrior of Light is not a physical being, that they are not flesh and blood. I believe that a WoL is actually a soul that has been blessed by Hydaelyn and sent to the star. At that point they "possess" a body/vessel (very much like how the Ascians do when they come to the star(aka Thancred that one time) and wait to be awakened when Hydaelyn is in need of aid.

There could easily be a plethora of them just waiting to be awakened to their calling. They could go their entire lives without knowing exactly who or what they are if in a period of long peace and never be awakened to answer the call.

So what do you guys think? What do you think are/makes/is a WoL?
