Scholars are known throughout Eorzea for having their trusty fairy by their side aiding friends to take those meany baddies down. I'm here to help those curious about the class become more familiar with their abilities.
* Basic Scholar heals & tools
First I'll go over main healing abilities and how they help us: Physick (lv 1): standard & MP efficient cure, 400 potency Adloquium (lv30): cure w/ higher MP cost but also adds a shield on target for 30 secs. doubles shield potency on crit heals! 300 potency Succor (lv35): like Adloquium but Area of Effect (AOE). this is our only AOE cure and it comes with a similar version of shield but without crit bonus. 150 potency Leeches (lv40): Scholar's version of Esuna… removes a good chunk of debuffs. Keep an eye on your party list for those! Sacred Soil (lv45): uses an Aetherflow charge to create an area where allies can go to take 10% less damage. Used best when you know a big hit towards party is incoming. Lustrate (lv50): My personal favorite… This handy tool uses an Aetherflow charge in exchange for a free & instant heal! it restores 25% of player's health. use it wisely! Aetherflow (lv6): restores 20% of your MP and increases your Aetherflow stacks to max (3 at 50). one of the most handy tools at your disposal. Resurrection (lv22): our Raise. costs a bit of MP with a long cast w/o Swiftcast but you need your party alive to win! Virus (lv12): reduces target's Str & Dex by 15% for 10 secs… Scholars also debuff opponent's Int & Mnd too! Useful to use before enemy big hits. Eye for an Eye (lv34): puts 30 sec barrier on target causing enemies hitting it to have a 20% chance to do 10% dmg for 20 secs.
This covers the basic cures and tools to help keep party alive.
Topics to be added later on: * Scholar abilities part 2… DPS & rest of moves * Scholar sub-class abilities * Eos & Selene… Scholar's best friends! * Utena's Macros 101… Scholar (PS4) edition!
If I can figure it out, I'll also add HUD setup too.

DPS skills
While certain jobs only require 1-2 spells to DPS (*CoughScott'sHolySpamOfDoomCough*) we can properly take down monsters through use of several DOT's (damage over time) spells. Here's what we have in our arsenal:
Bio - 40 potency DOT for 18 secs Miasma - 20 potency along with 35 potency DOT for 24 secs… also gives disease causing cure effects down for 40% & heavy 40% Bio II - 35 potency DOT for 30 secs Miasma II - 20 potency AoE along with 10 potency DOT for 15 secs along with disease effect Shadow Flare - 30 sec designated area 25 potency along with 5% slow Bane - uses Aetherflow stack to make single target spells to multiple nearby foes; 15% chance of recast resetting it's timer. Energy Drain - 150 potency attack & absorbs 50% HP/MP. Uses aetherflow stack. Ruin - 80 potency attack Ruin II - 80 potency attack with 10 sec blind effect. burns more MP than Ruin but has additional effect & instant cast
The following abilities are available for Sch as cross-class… limited to 5 total: Stoneskin - weaker version compared to Whm version, still better than nothing. Protect - weaker version compared to Whm as it lacks magic defense damage resistance Cleric's Stance - makes your puny attacks stronger by switching Mnd with Int and adding extra damage, but makes your cures weaker. Be sure to deactivate when curing! Swiftcast - I'd say this wins MVP for cross-class… makes spells instant-cast when used before… specially handy when raising people or when you need fairy out ASAP. 60 sec cooldown Aero - 50 potency damage & 25 potency DOT for 18 secs Surecast - prevents interrupt for next spell cast; 30 sec cooldown Blizzard II - 100 potency blizzard AoE for 4 secs without Blm's Umbral Ice bonuses Raise - useless as Sch has resurrection Cure - useless as Sch has Physick
When using Scholar, you have the option to use Eos or Selene… Both fairies can be used for different situations, though I personally prefer Selene over Eos. Here's what they can do:
Selene: Embrace - fairy's cure… 300 potency Fey Glow - AOE increased spell speed 30% buff for 30 secs Fey Light - AOE increased skill speed 30% buff for 30 secs Silent Dawn - silences target for 1 sec
Rouse - adding here since it's a pet related skill… increases potency by 40% & makes fairy immune to stun, sleep, bind, heavy, paralysis & disease for 20 secs
And I'm back for the final part of my guide… apologies for taking so long, I get distracted very easily. The following is a list of macros I have for everyday use on my scholar. Please keep in mind that I press buttons really fast using the PS4 controller to target everyone.
I'm splitting this macro section in 3 parts…. one for Selene, one for Eos and one for shared casts like DPS and bio/eye for an eye. Selene I usually leave in autopilot, mainly so I don't have to worry about buffs because she rotates Fey Glow and Fey Light on her own. Eos on the other hand requires a bit more managing to use properly.
Also Sacred Soil, Leeches and protect I don't have macro'd with anything else to improve speed of their casts. But they can be macro'd similar to anything below for Science!
Eos macros are different from Selene's including cures. Using Eos will give you a lot more curing power when you need it. Before using Eos, be sure to turn her manual by using "Obey" command.
One last macro I forgot before, turning Selene to Manual and have it follow you: /pac "Sic" <me> /pac "Heel" <me>
Now to the fancy stuff… Eos macros! Note I have both Physick and Succor on these, one will go off depending on whether I'm targeting someone or not. This way I can keep healing while fairy is casting her buff. Lastly, use Fey Illumination before Whispering Dawn always to ensure you get the most out of your Eos's party regen.
Before we begin I want to make sure every one is clear on the term "global cool down" and how it effects game play. The GCD (global cool down) is a time when you cannot cast most spells. Some spells like Virus have an internal cool down that is not effected by the GCD. These spells can be paired into duo casts. For instance a SCH could create an emergency macro that casts first Lustrate and then Adloquium, both would cast at the same time.
I'm going to toss my thoughts about SCH healing in here then dive into your macros since I now have a PC copy of the game.
I wanted to talk PC first.
Why do you have Aetherflow macroed into everything? It seems like a waste. As a healer I hoard my charges until they are needed for healing, I need mana, I'm blowing DPS. Using Aetherflow above 80% mana, with charges left, and in a fight seems like a waste. Even if you only have 1 charge thats still = to 4 with Aetherflow off cool down.
I don't like to have so much control over my Fairies… More on this in the next post.
DPSing as healer. I have never had DPS high on my list because I simply do not have enough room on PS4 hotbars. But now that I am on PC I am wondering about Ruin 2. Ruin 2, at face value, is wasted cast. It cool down is, for me, 2.38 seconds with a short blind effect. It cost more MP than Ruin for what boils down to the exact same cast time. (Ruin has a cast/cool down of 2.38 seconds–also note I am ignoring the fact you can run and cast Ruin 2) Because of these reasons I ignored it on PS4. But now I am wondering. SCH has a few off global cool down casts such as Energy Drain and Bane.
You can easily turn this into 4 macros for each listed above. The only down side is that it turns those spells in global cool down triggers. (this means that you cannot cast another spell for 2.38 seconds)
Firstly lets talk about the fairy before we dive into the macros. I don't like to control my Fairies and honestly I use Eos 99% of the time so I am going to ignore the other. Lefts face it, Eos has no idea when she should cast AOE spells. But she is grand at casting direct heals. On PS4 I only use 3 macros for healing and one for DPS. (but if you read what I said above about Ruin 2, I will be adding DPS macros)
Below I am going to break them down and explain why I use them but I am not going to type them out. You can make them from the great wealth of information above or if you have problems ask.
–-Pet summoning is my first macro. Simply put it summons Eos and a little over 8 seconds later puts her in Obey stance. I run Eos in Guard (default) and Obey. –-Guard lets her do direct heals as she sees fit. This has no effect on healing a dying tank as she automatically targets the lowest HP person and heals them as long as you keep her in range. The drawback to this is that she wont run out and heal a target, to me this is a small problem. The up side is that she will focus on the lowest HP person as I do something else such as cast an AOE or DPS. With Eos in Guard I can ignore healing for extend periods of time or completely depending on the tank and number of monsters pulled. –-Obey is used to control your pets special abilities. For Eos this is AOE HOTs (heals over time), AOE healing %+, and AOE magic defense%+. This is my second macro. I keep her HOT and healing+ on the same macro for two reasons. Whispering Dawn (the HOT) has a shorter cool down (60 seconds) than Fey Illumination (the healing+ at 120 second cool down). For every one Illumination you can cast two Dawns, because of this I keep Dawn as my macro icon but cast Illumination first. This makes the HOT stronger and ups my healing power. When you want to get more complicated we can start talking about Rouse (60 second cool down, 40%+ pet healing) and the many ways it can be used. –-My last healing macro is for Resurrection. This macro simply tells my group who i am resing, cast Swiftcast, then Res.
DPS I have one DPS macro on PS4. It casts, in this order, Bio 2, Miasma, Bio. Why that order? Timing. Bio 2 lasts 30 seconds, Miasma 24 seconds, and Bio 18 seconds. With the way macros work, this gives me 2.5 seconds cast time. By the time I cast Bio, 5 seconds have passed and Bio 2 is down to 25 seconds remaining. By the time Bio ends Bio 2 has 7 seconds left. If I start my macro at that moment I will refresh Bio 2 and lose 4.5 seconds of DPS. This is not the best way to DPS but then I am a healer.
